Derivation of ADL and IADL Variables in NHATS
We created two versions of summary ADL and IADL variables. In this document we provide a description of each version, and the frequency of each variable coded. Finally, we present the cross frequencies of the two versions. The two versions are:
- VERSION 1 (V1_ prefix): According to the algorithm described in “VERSION 1 ALGORITHM” section. (Each ADL and each IADL is coded in the same way, so the same figure applies to all ADLs and IADLs.)
- VERSION 2 (V2_prefix): According to the algorithm described in “VERSION 2 / KENNY LAM ALGORITHM” section. (The algorithm varies a little between different ADLs and IADLS, so it is described for each variable.) This algorithm was suggested by Dr. Kenneth Lam.
