About EAC
The External Advisory Committee (EAC) includes national leaders in aging research external to UCSF to share lessons learned across centers, provide guidance to the UCSF Pepper Center leadership team to integrate high-quality training opportunities for its scholars, and advise on strategic approaches to pilot and career development award solicitation and the selection and new scientific opportunities.
Seth Landefeld, MD Chair, Department of Medicine | School of Medicine, University of Alabama at Birmingham Dr. Landefeld’s work has aimed to transform and personalize health care to meet the needs of older Americans and their families in this Aging Century, a century that will be dominated by the medical and social issues of the aging global population. His research has improved outcomes of older persons with serious illness. In landmark studies of acutely ill hospitalized elders, Landefeld and his colleagues invented the Acute Care for Elders (ACE) Unit, a novel method for improving patients’ functional outcomes.
Jean Kutner, MD, MPH/MSPH Professor of Medicine | School of Medicine, University of Colorado Dr. Kutner's research focuses on palliative care and hospice, particularly on the family caregiver experience and improving the management of pain and other symptoms at the end of life. Her clinical interests include wellness and prevention, management of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, care for older adults (geriatrics) and palliative care.

Dr. Lachs is the Irene and Roy Psaty Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College and Co-Chief of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, and the Director of Geriatrics for The New York Presbyterian Health Care System. His major area of interest is the disenfranchised elderly, and he has published widely in the areas of elder abuse and neglect, adult protective services, the measurement of functional status, ethics and the financing of health care.
