Introduction
UCSF researchers with topic interests in aging-related areas often obtain data directly from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. To help overcome these challenges, the UCSF Pepper Center and Division of Geriatrics has partnered with the School of Medicine Dean’s Office Technology Services (SOM Tech) to make available the CMS Data Reuse Initiative, a valuable set of data and research resources to support UCSF research in population health, health equity, and health services. For investigators conducting aging-focused research with the UCSF Pepper Center and Division of Geriatrics, this initiative can facilitate access to a 20% representative sample of all Medicare beneficiaries 65 years and older with fee-for–service coverage of Medicare Parts A, B, and D.
